Birthday Party #1

It's been awhile since I posted - surprise, surprise! There's too much to write about right now other than the most import thing....Connor turned 3 today. It's hard to believe 3 years ago yesterday I left the company Christmas party and little early because I was in labor. The big milestone for Connor was first thing we did this morning was throw away his paci. I had planned on taking it away at 2 but with Savannah coming I didn't want him to have to deal with that along with a new baby sister. So, I gave in and let him have it. So, for the past few weeks I've been preparing him and telling him when he turned 3 we were throwing it away and it would be gone. He threw it away himself but of course at nap time asked for it, but didn't get it. It really wasn't too big a deal because he had chewed a hole in it and hadn't really been using it.

Anyway, we had a birthday day party for him and Savannah yesterday. (Danny's parents usually leave the day after Christmas going to Alabama to visit family so I combined their birthday parties since I can right now.) Savannah actually kept her crown on a lot longer than I thought she would. And of course didn't open many presents but did play with them. Connor opened most of his I think but of course wanted to play with whatever he opened. We kept having to direct him back to his presents to open them. But, he did everything he got. After we opened presents we did cake and ice cream. I didn't light Savannah's cake but Danny did Connors. The funny thing is he would go near the cake with the candles lit. I bet everybody tried for about 5 minutes to get hi to go blow the candles out but he wouldn't. And when I tried to carry him close to them he was about to cry. At one point everybody even turned their backs thinking maybe that would be better. It didn't matter. I ended up blowing them out. As soon as the candles were blown out he went straight to the cake. The only think I can figure is he was a little scared of the flames. Danny burns boxes outside quite often. Connor gets to go out when he does but is always told to stay away from the fire because it could hurt him. So, I'm guessing he associated the fire from outside with the candles and actually listened to what he was told and didn't go near it. :-) Savannah really enjoyed her cake. But when she was finished, she was over it and ready to get out of her high chair. She didn't enjoy the quick bath in the kitchen sink either. It was a busy and fun filled afternoon. Just think - we have 3 more Christmas' (1 with Danny's family, our personal one and then with my family since they aren't coming 'til Christmas evening) and 1 more birthday party to go (with my family after Christmas). Talk about overwhelming - but a very good overwhelming!!
