Pumpkins + a crown + a lock doesn't = a fairy tale!

OK - so the post about our vacation will have to wait for a bit....I have to explain the title of this one!

So, today was my 34Th birthday. It was birthday like no other - it was a DAY like no other. It started off like any other Wednesday - got the kids up and ready and went to school. (Side note: I am part of a MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) group and in charge of "creativity" or craft). My task for today was to find pumpkins for our craft we are doing this Friday at our meeting. I had find pumpkins that were big enough to do our craft but weren't too expensive seeing I had to buy 22. Thankfully my search was short. For all those local - there's a floral stand down 321 that has tons of pumpkins, mums, hay, corn stalks, etc. They were kind of enough to mark some of the pumpkins down and not charge me for all of them.

As soon as I got the 22 pumpkins loaded in the back of my Pilot I headed to Knoxville to get a lovely crown put on one of my teeth (I had cracked my veneer about 2 weeks ago - gritting my teeth while dealing with 2 wonderful children!). Who doesn't want to go get gassed up, shots, a numb lip and a bore gum for their birthday? At least it's all done and taken care of.

After that I went by Danny's office for a few minutes and just had time to run and the kids home for their naps so I could get some stuff done. Got them home. As I was getting Savannah ready to lay down Connor informed me he was going to go to the bathroom. After laying her down I went to go into the bathroom and.....the handle won't turn. Connor had decided to lock the door for some reason. A little aggravated because I felt I didn't have time to deal with him stalling - something he is mastering every day. He has locked his door and unlocked it before. So I (tried to) calmly tell him to unlock to the door. He tries and says it's stuck. So, now I'm trying to figure out if he's trying to turn the handle or the lock. I get a bobby pin and try to unlock it - no luck. Danny tells me to get a nail and try that. I couldn't get it to work. So, I climbed out of the window in the play room, scooted across the roof to the window at the bathroom. Now, I knew he couldn't open the window but at least I would be able to see what he was trying to turn. Much to my surprise when I got to the window he was standing on his step stool, washing his hands, with his underwear around his ankles. He stayed that way until he got out because I had to wipe his bottom. He did think it was pretty cool I was out there. I could see that he was trying to turn it but couldn't quite get it turned past that first little click to get it turned. He would go between being distraught and playing in the water. I crawled back in and went back to trying all the while trying to convince him to try too. But he didn't want "to try together." He just wanted me to. Finally I called my husband's wonderful cousin, Pam. She came and in about 3 minutes had him out. I so should have called her 30 minutes earlier since that's how long I tried to get him out. I do think he learned to not lock any more doors. When I asked him why he locked it he said he wanted to be in the bathroom by himself. When laying down he said, "Next time, I'll just close the door!"

After all that and having the worst headache ever I decided I would take a nap with him. After waking up a little after 3:00 (a good 20 min nap!) I went and checked on Savannah and found she had never gone to sleep. So, she got to skip her nap - which doesn't happen too often.

I'm so thankful I had a "Ladies Night Out" scheduled with my sister-in-law & my soon to be sister-in-law. We had massages, Olive Garden and a little shopping for Savannah for the wedding we'll be in in November - shoes, necklace - and a few necklaces and rings to just wear! The Ladies Night out was worth all I went through. Overall it was a GREAT birthday - one I'll remember for a very long time!
